Unexplained Silly Thing #25

I'm not sure what's so silly about this picture but I laugh my head off everytime I see it:

Miniature Power Rangers

There's so much going on here I don't know where to start. The enourmous school bus in full sunlight. The anxious mom on cel phone, waiting for her son to come home from his first day at school. The two miniature Power Rangers at the bottom, in shadow, masks off. The black Ranger is my earth son, and something about seeing him in a Power Ranger costume, when my earth wife and I have worked so hard at keeping him UnDisneyfied is both saddening and hilarious.

Hey Forrest! This is Tom(my) Hornack writing. I was just trying to find you on the 'net, and hope I just did. Why was I trying to find you on the net, you ask? Read on...

I sort of remember my mom mentioning a few years ago that she had bumped into "Millie" and that Ken was lawyering in Raleigh, and Forrest was keyboarding soundtracks in LA for some movies or something...

Fast forward to a couple nights ago... I was at a store here (in Greensboro, where I relocated my family a few weeks ago after many years around Atlanta) looking though their used CD bin and found a folk music sampler called it's in my car...)"Awakenings" or "Awakening Compilation" or "Awakecompling Keninglation" or something like that. (I forget, because it is in my car, and I have not been there in a few hours). Anyway, it looked to be a Chapel Hill-produced sampling of local artists. There, among the other less familiar names, stood FORREST MAREADY with a couple songs. "I think I know that guy," I said to myself. So, I bought the CD and will be enjoying the "waffle weaver" and "prayer of a man long dead" pieces for a while. I proudly, subsequently played them for my kids while driving and said "Hear this song, kids?? This guy's dad was my basketball coach when I was your age!!!" (Their response was, "Can we stop for a slushie?" Don't take it personally, however).

Anyway, I thought to myself, "Hmmm, Forrest was making keyboard music in California, but clearly the dude is also a talented acoustic guitarist and songwriter, so I wonder what he is up to now? I then found this website and have been highly entertained by everything from your musings on Sun Drop, Duke/Discovery Health Channel, etc. etc.

So, I was looking for an e-mail address to say "hey." I guess a blog or message board will suffice. "HEY!"

-Tom
